Anyway i was at clementi police hq this morning. I'm involved in an unpleasant case where my insurance agent tried to cheat people's money. Basically, W (his name is kept secret for obvious reasons) forged signatures of his clients and used clients' money (meant to renew policies) to buy bogus policies. Apparently, i found out from the police, there were 30 odd clients affected. If you think he was close to getting away, he was nowhere near. Most big insurance companies monitor their policies closely. For my case, my policy was not renewed and the company knew it and the alarm just went off.
But that is not the point of the story. First point: Please buy insurance from big companies with renowned status. For my case, although W was caught in the end, W probably had spent a huge amount of it and wouldnt had been able to return me by money. But the company still compensated my losses and reinstated my policies.
Second point: Please do not be carried away by GREED. this is especially to friends who are starting out work and starting to earn a good amount of income. Frankly speaking, W is a driven and capable individual. Compared to the new agent who replaced him, W is certainly more hardworking and customer oriented. (of cos, his motives may be in question) W was doing very very well in his first few years apparently, as most of my colleagues actually bought policies from him. My guess is that, during the later years, he could not keep up with his service standards, and found the commission obtained from renewal of policies too low to sustain his living (or greed). Hence, he decided to buy new policies to get higher commissions. This is my guess lah. Life has its highs and its not-so-highs. Do not expect it to be high all the way. When it's not-so-high, do not despair, or even be desperate to get back to the previous high.
I have this quote from Nicheren Daishonin:
Those who believe in the Lotus Sutra (a Buddhist writing) are as of in winter, but winter always turns into spring.
